Baby Season...

I'm surrounded by pregnant women or new mamas...

We go through these seasons in our lives where it seems like everyone we know is graduating or getting married. I've reached baby season. I have 4 pregnant friends and 3 new mom friends... And it's so cool to be surrounded by all this awesomeness. Watching the beginning of some one's life is such an amazing privilege. I'm thankful that God allows us to experience life this way. I think about where my friends and I are now and how our parents must feel, watching the cycle of life continue through their children...

We're still not ready to take that step. But God is softening my heart to the idea of seeing the sweet face of my little life one day...

Architect or whatever...

I don't write a lot about work and maybe it's because it's become one of those deals where work is best left at work. I can't deny how big a part of my life it is. I see my boss more than I see my husband! (Thankfully, I spend more quality time with my hubby.) But, the longer I've been in this profession, the more I've seen the far less glamorous side of it. I suppose that happens with most professions. When we get into our lines of work, there is usually some dream of changing the world or making a difference in people's lives. I wanted to become an architect to make beautiful places for people to gather and connect. (I still do) No one growing up says "I wanna be an architect so that I can flaunt my ego, deal with difficult clients and pay lots of liability insurance!" Or the other harsh reality... Architecture is a client/market driven profession. So it's been tough finding work in this bad economy. I'm just happy to have a job right now in the field I want.

I have, however, started thinking quite seriously about what to do if our market dries up. Luckily, I saw this article in the NYTimes about how other architects are getting through this recession by reinventing themselves or the way they work: Out-of-Work Architects Turn to Other Skills

Hmmm... The idea of architecture related food doesn't sound that bad...

Hands On Fun

I wanted to make our wedding invitations memorable to our guests and be able to tell our story in just one image.

"I Wanna Dance"

A wonderful, magical thing happens when people come together. My brother got married to a beautiful woman from a pretty traditional Chinese family. Part of their wedding weekend was a semi-formal, sit-down Chinese banquet with all her family, some friends of her mother's and of course my family. As a West Indian family, we're used to much more merriment in our celebrations. Her family was both accommodating and entertained by our dancing and silliness at the banquet. A memorable time was had by all...

"Snowmaggedon's" Aftermath...

The mid-Atlantic states got SLAMMED by two record breaking snowfall weekends... After being couped up in the house for a couple of days, we decided we needed fresh air, sunshine and a survey of the "damage"...

By the time it was all done, we got about 2 feet of snow, a week of snow days, and a bunch of people that are "so over" all this snow...

Slushy week in RIC...

Since grown-ups don't get snow days, I had to head out in the messy weather to the office...

But views like this make it worth the trouble...

For Lovers, For Dreamers...

My husband and I met and spent most of our time dating in Richmond, VA. It's a beautiful city full of charm and history. Quite romantic, if you ask me!

His family is actually from the area and we spent many of his weekends "home" with them, hiking through the woods or just cuddling and talking on the swinging bench...

Sunday afternoons after church,we'd stop at the old Shake Shop that his parents use to go. We shared lovey dovey glazes over our sandwiches and milkshakes...

And probably the most romantic place is the canal walk in downtown, nestled between the bustling city and majestic James River. It's where we had our first date. And it's where he asked me spend forever with him...

Richmond will always have a place in our hearts. It's where we found love...
