Happy happy...

I received many texts, calls and Facebook messages on this somewhat momentous birthday of mine. I never make a huge deal out of my birthday, but I feel so very blessed to have people around me that know how to make it special!

While I surely love and appreciated all the well wishes from friends and family, it was the people physically close to me that really made my day. Thanks to my sweet husband for giving me somewhere to display the tons of photos I take besides my laptop and my friends for dinner at a nice hibachi restaurant.

Here goes another year! Thank you God for the blessing of this life!

Tornado...

On Saturday, several parts of N.C. were devastated by violent storms and tornadoes. Here we braced ourselves for the weather as best we could. Thankfully, our section of town missed the worst of it all. However, base housing was hit by a tornado at night and many homes were destroyed. Please keep the Camp Lejeune community in your thoughts and prayers as well as those injured and the families that have lost their homes.

Deployments...

I'm still relatively new to the military lifestyle and our first duty station together was pretty much a non-deployable base. So now that we and many of our friends are with deployable regiments, I'm experiencing the part of military life that I'd been spared from so far.

Given the current state of affairs in the world, deployments have become a way of life for many military members and their families. We have people close to us that have husbands on 3rd and 4th deployments. Recently, it seems like we're sending someone off every other week. And it's a painful thing to see the families face all the uncertainty and separation involved, especially when there are little ones.

Feeling so helpless and a little lost, I hope I can offer some sense of comfort and support to my friends. I will continue to ask God to watch over those brave men and women and bring them safely back to the families that love them so much...
